Directions from "Downtown" Joshua Tree
<top
of page> (Highway 62 and
Park Blvd - i.e. Nomad Ventures and Coyote Corner) |
|
Milemark |
|
| 1) |
0.0 |
For Highway 62, head south on Park Blvd towards the Park's
West Entrance |
| 2) |
1.0 |
About 1 mile up, you will pass through a "major" intersection - Alta
Loma Dr (a.k.a. Yucca Trail, this is the back road to Yucca Valley);
Don't turn unless you would rather go to Walmart. Anyway, keep going straight.
By the way, from this point onward, the locals call the road Quail
Spring Road. |
| 3) |
2.7 |
You will travel another 1.7
miles and the road will wind a
bunch. You will see "section 7" on the left, which is
public lands. This one of the
areas we often go riding in. Keep traveling towards the National Park.
About 2.7 mile from town, you will see a "busy
intersection" where Willow, Rincon and Turtle all come together.
You are almost there. |
| 4) |
2.85 |
After another 200 yards you will see
on the left a JT Ranch sign and the Ranch's service road. You will
also see small red building on the left. |
| 5) |
3.0 |
Keep going another 200 yards and you
will see the the Ranch's entrance road on the left that leads you to our parking area.
(Finding us is part of the adventure; Note: the Park is 1.75
miles further up Quail Spring Road; happy trails!!!) |

From
Palm Spring Area - Easy. <top
of page> |
|
From downtown Palm Springs, take North Indian north for 5 miles to
the 10 freeway. West on the 10 for 3 miles, then the 62 north for 27
mile to Joshua Tree. Taking Indian Avenue all the way to the 62 cuts of some
miles and time. Locals only.
Yahoo says 35 mile but 58 minutes.
They must think folk in Palm Spring must drive slow! |
|
|
|
From Los Angeles - Easy. <top
of page> |
|
From downtown, head east on the 10 for 100 miles.
If you are not surrounded by windmills, something is wrong. You're
probable stuck at the outlet mall in Cabazan or one of the Indian Casino's.
Anyway, as I was saying, after 100 miles you'll see the turnoff for
highway 62. Taking it for 28 mile to "downtown JT"
Yahoo says it is 2 hours 8 minutes, 127.5 miles. |
|
|
|
From
North County San Diego - Also Easy. <top
of page> |
|
First make your way to
north county. From Escondido, take the 15 North for 32 miles, the
215 North for 30 miles, the 60 East for 18, the 10 east for 22, the 62
north for 28 and roll into JT.
Yahoo says it is 2 hours 13 minutes, 131.6 miles.
Add another 30 mile and 30 minutes from downtown San Diego.

Quick Super Secret/Local Only Way
Recommended for those who look
for adventure in even in the mundane. |
Boring but Proven Ways:

| Take the 15 west for 93 miles to
Baker. See the World's largest thermometer - who dreams up
this stuff anyway?) From Baker take Kelbaker Road/CA-127
south for 35 miles to Kelso. You are now right in middle of the
Mojave National Preserve - this place rules!.. Check out the new
visitor center at the old Kelso train station. Continue on Kelbaker/CA-127 for another 34 miles till
it dead-ends at
historic route 66. Make a right (west) and after 6 miles
pass the birthplace of Charles Manson (Amboy CA). Just
after the gas station (unknown if it is open or in business)
make a left on Amboy road and follow it 45 miles to 29 Palm - the
location of the world's largest marine base. At Utah Trail
(i believe the first light) make a left. Go 2 miles to the
62. Then head west for 14 miles to "downtown JT".
If my math is right, that is 227 miles but there is a short cut from
Vegas to Kelso which save you 32 mile if you really want full
value. Distance via shortcut is 195 miles. |
Per Yahoo Maps, it's 300 miles from
VEgas to JT by
car through the urban ghettos. However, why bother when you can jump the
commuter to Palm
Spring or land your jet at the Joshua Tree Hi Desert Airport.
If you are going to land your jet, please e-mail me
at
WallyBarker@Prodigy.Net. I want to see
it!!!!! |
